BIG People are “Leapers,” Not “Ladder-Climbers”

Goldfish leaping from bowlIn order to be bold, innovative, and generous (BIG), you have to adopt a BIG mindset. The subtitle of our book, is “Rising Tide of Dreams to Action.” First comes the dream, then comes the action. It’s easy enough to dream, but what about action?

I just read a blog post that draws a great metaphor to encourage meaningful action in business and life. Marketing expert Dan Kennedy notes that we often talk about “climbing the ladder of success.” He argues, however, that we should “think ‘leap,’ not ‘ladder’” to achieve BIG things. Most people “…think in terms of incremental growth and sequential activity, in effect, ladder climbing…Are you somehow Ladder Climbing now when you could and should be Leaping?” Kennedy writes.

Good question. The BIG people we’ve met and profiled have this in common: They’re bold and innovative. They’re leapers. They go for it. And for that they have richer, more fulfilling lives.

As you embark on your BIG journey, are you a ladder-climber or a leaper? Kennedy suggests a good exercise: Try to name as many leapers as you can.

Good idea. Study leapers. Learn from them. We write about a lot of them here and in our book. They surround you. Are you going to join the rising tide?
