Smile Train’s Pinki Wins Oscar
Tom Ruwitch / Monday, February 23rd, 2009 / No Comments »In a triumph of glory born out of tragedy, “Smile Pinki, A Real-World Fairy Tale” won last night’s Oscar for Documentary Short.
The movie is the story of a young girl in India who was born with a cleft lip. Smile Train, the world’s leading cleft lip charity, changed her life.
As the movie’s promotional poster says, “She suffered for six long years, waiting for a 45-minute surgery that would change her life.”
We’ve included the trailer below. You cannot help being caught up in the work of Smile Train when you see this.
Our hats are off the Director Megan Mylan for this work. More than ever, though, our thanks go to Brian Mullaney and DeLois Greenwood for the astonishing work of Smile Train, whose mission it is to perform free cleft/palate surgery for every child who otherwise would not be helped, world wide.
You will learn about Smile Train in depth in our upcoming book.
For now, though, take time to go to their website and learn more about Pinki.
